Catch of the Week: Thi Tran

thi tran

Name: Thi Tran

Occupation: Mortgage broker

Have you had your heart broken and what did you learn?

I think a better way to describe it is that I’ve had my heart ‘misused’. I was really young and wasn’t fully equipped to handle it, so it felt broken.

I learned that I’m strong, that I can get through it, and that my heart can be repaired. I learned that if people hurt me it’s not a reflection of me, it’s a reflection of them. You can’t control how people treat you, only what you do with it.

How important is a man’s wealth to you?

Money doesn’t make you wealthy, it just means you have a lot of money. Just because a man has money doesn’t mean those riches are going to be transferred to you. I care about a person’s wealth of spirit, of experience, about their passion to live a full life. That, to me is a wealthy life – it’s filled with love, friends, family and good wine.

What are your thoughts on dating in Vancouver?

There are great single people and interesting characters out there. You have to have a mentality of abundance to attract people into your life. If you think there are no good guys then there will be none. You have to be open to meeting different people. People can sense that approachability. The bottom line is, I like people. Even if there’s no love connection, you can meet an amazing friend, or learn a new story.

What is romance to you?

It’s the little things that a person does to make me feel beautiful and special. It can be as simple as opening the door, making a dinner reservation, or picking me up. I really appreciate someone who is thoughtful and considerate. The little things go so far.

How important is it for a guy to pay for the bill.

The bill is a non-issue. It’s a nice gesture. If they do pay it is appreciated but if they don’t, it’s not a deal breaker.  And if you pay, don’t complain about it.

What would you tell about your 20-year-old self

That it gets better. A lot better. I like myself at 31 way more than I ever did in my twenties. It also gets easier. The more you know yourself, the more confident you are navigating life.

What message would you like to leave with women?

Don’t sell yourself short. Know the power and beauty in who you are – nothing is sexier than a strong sense of self! Don’t be so hard on yourself.

What message would you like to leave with men?

It takes way less effort to be kind and loving than it does to be mean and hurtful. Plus, you get way more return.

Thi, same name and same view on life and relationships! I’m 26 and currently establishing what’s right for me, but I agree, it get’s better. I’ve learnt to understand ‘me’ now and use this understanding project it towards the people I meet. The right one will eventually come and stay :)

If Thi Tran was sat opposite me, I would happily pay the bill as soon as it landed on the table and would never moan about it – ever!
